Department of Environmental Science
The Department of Environmental Science, established in 2000, focuses its research on Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology, and Environmental Monitoring and Management. It offers degree programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, as well as a postdoctoral program in Environmental Science, which has been recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education as a National Key Discipline. The department has 29 highly qualified faculty members. By providing excellent research platforms, the department trains environmental professionals with an international perspective and innovative thinking.
Department of Ecology
The Department of Ecology, established in 2012, focuses its research on Coastal Wetland Ecology, Marine Ecology, Plant Ecology, Animal Ecology, and Restoration Ecology. With a well-established training system from the undergraduate to the postdoctoral level, XMU has been recognized as one of the key national talent cultivation bases in Ecology. Several research achievements have received academic awards, including the State Technological Innovation Award. The department currently has 36 full-time faculty members. In response to national and local needs for socioeconomic development and ecological civilization building, the department trains students with an international vision and equips them with theoretical knowledge, methodologies, technologies, and new developments in Ecology, as well as the ability to apply ecological approaches to solve practical problems.
Department of Environmental and Ecological Engineering
The Department of Environmental and Ecological Engineering, established in 2016, focuses its research on applying ecological principles in Environmental Pollution Control and Engineering, with the goal of achieving a sustainable living environment. It also hosts an Environmental Evaluation unit. The department currently has 17 full-time faculty members. The department trains students with the concept of sustainable development, equipping them with fundamental theories, knowledge, and skills in the fields of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Ecology. At the same time, it fosters strong innovation awareness and practical skills, enabling students to work on ecological environment assessment, environmental and ecological planning and design, and the construction and maintenance of environmental and ecological engineering projects.
