Environmental Science

1982: The Environmental Science Research Institute was founded.

1992: The Environmental Science Research Center was founded.

1994–1995: Master's and doctoral programs in Environmental Science were approved by the Ministry of Education.

2005: The State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (MEL) was established.

2007: Environmental Science was designated as a National Key Discipline.

2009: MEL was accredited as an International Science and Technology Cooperation Base by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

2010: MEL received an Excellent rating in the national key laboratory evaluation.

2011: The College of Environment & Ecology (CEE) was founded.

2020: Environmental Science was designated as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program, and Environmental and Ecological Engineering was approved as a Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program.

2021: The Fujian-Taiwan Strait Marine Ecosystem National Field Science Observation and Research Station was approved for construction.


Ecology

1920s: Teaching and research in ecology began at Xiamen University.

1923: Xiamen University published its first Science paper on amphioxus fisheries off the coast of Xiamen, authored by ecology researchers.

1981: The first cohort of postgraduate students majoring in ecology was enrolled.

1987: Xiamen University's Zoology discipline (including Ecology) was listed among the first batch of National Key Disciplines.

1994: Official recruitment of postgraduate students in ecology was launched.

2008: The Key Laboratory of Coastal and Wetland Ecosystems (Ministry of Education) was established and passed the formal assessment by the Ministry of Education in November 2011.

2010: The Fujian Provincial Engineering Research Center for Coastal Wetland Conservation and Ecological Restoration was founded.

2011: Ecology was designated as a Tier-One National Key Discipline for doctoral programs.

2017: Ecology was selected to be part of China's National Double First-Class Initiative.

2018–2020: Two field observation and research stations were approved for construction: the Zhangjiang Estuary Mangrove Wetland Ecosystem Fujian Provincial Field Science Observation and Research Station, and the Taiwan Strait Marine Ecosystem Field Science Observation and Research Station of the Ministry of Education.

2020: Ecology was designated as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program.

2021: The Fujian-Taiwan Strait Marine Ecosystem National Field Science Observation and Research Station was approved for construction.

2022: Ecology was re-selected to be part of China's National Double First-Class Initiative and achieved significant progress in the national discipline assessment.
